I’m seriously puzzled about this one. Does eating chocolate cause acne? Little knowledge, they say, is a dangerous thing, but this is one case where I may have acquired more knowledge than I know what to do with. So one thing I do know: science is yet to establish a clear link between specific foods and acne, which is a huge relief, of course, because you can no longer say that chocolate causes acne per se, only that it causes acne in some people. The Journal of the American Medical Association says, “Diet plays no role in acne treatment in most patients…even large amounts of certain foods have not clinically exacerbated acne.” So there.
That, I think, is the trick. I have read of beauticians who report that clients (women, mostly) who eat more meat are apparently more prone to acne. Here’s how: acne is a result of excess sebum production stimulated by the male hormone testosterone. Since meat contains hormone-like substances that can affect the body’s hormonal balance, those who eat more meat could be more acne-prone.
Yet another school of thought says that Western diets in general cause more acne, because of their high fat and dairy-rich content. Hmm…come to think of it, I haven’t seen too many Chinese with acne. Is that sentence politically incorrect? Think about it: most Eastern countries live on high-starch diets with a strong base of vegetables and fruits and little meat. That certainly tells me something.
The point is, plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet may not actually cure acne, but would certainly not aggravate it or trigger an outbreak. For proteins, how about pulses and fish? And water, plenty of water to flush the toxins out. I’m going to try this and report back, so keep reading!

I'm not entirely sure how well that will work out. I just currently finished a fruit/vegetables binge and my skin is practically the same, but I lost a great deal of weight. However I have noticed that greasy foods, chocolate, soda, fries, and basically everything that is delicious is a trigger, which really sucks!
My point is foods that are good for you will do practically nothing, but foods that are bad for you will definitely trigger acne (life is cruel!). At least, that is my experience.
Hi,
