Is Hydrogen Peroxide a good treatment for acne?

I’ve been looking online for at-home acne cures, and one treatment I’ve been seeing a lot is hydrogen peroxide acne treatment. Would that be a good way to treat acne? How would I use it? Would I just apply hydrogen peroxide topically on my face? How often should I use it? Is it safe? Any other advice/suggestions? Thanks!

Best Answer:

Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizing agent that is used medically for treating wounds. When applied on an infected skin, hydrogen peroxide gets converted to water, a process which releases oxygen and creates conditions that are not ideal for acne-causing bacteria to grow in the sebum. Aside from that, the water formed in the process helps to drain out the pores and rid of the clogged material, preventing pimple formation. However, for acne treatment, it is advisable to use only a diluted formulation of hydrogen peroxide – solutions of 2.5% or 3% concentration is usually good enough; more concentrated solutions can cause skin bleaching and burning.
