A healthier way of getting rid of acne without using minocycline?
I have been taking minocycline for over 6months so I have to have a checkup to make sure I havent suffered any serious side effects. Im only 14 so I dont wanna be putting my body at risk for another 5 or so years. Is there a less harmful way of treating acne?
At Home Remedies For Acne
If you are having problems with acne and nothing seems to be helping, don’t give up. There are some simple, home remedies you may not have tried yet. First I want to cover a few basic points just to be sure they’re covered. Washing your face is important when you have acne. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser or soap. Avoid scrubs or anything potentially irritating to your skin.
Keeping your face clean doesn’t end with washing, in fact that’s just the beginning. Touching your face can lead to more problems. Oils dirt and bacteria from your fingers can actually cause breakouts. Keep your hair off your face for the same reason. And avoid irritating your skin by keeping hair products off your face. When washing your hair lean your head back and wash and rinse away from your face. When styling keep your face covered. Also replace or wash pillow cases and sheets every two or three days to help keep your face clean and avoid additional breakouts.
Drink water. Soda and juice are not good enough it has to be water. Consume at least one full liter of water everyday. This will help keep your body and your pores cleansed and detoxed.
Fast Acne Remedies
1) Toothpaste: Use a plan toothpaste, not a gel, tarter control formula or anything fancy like that.
* Dab the toothpaste directly on to the blemish and leave it there for an hour or so, the time differs from person to person. You will know its working when it starts to tingle. Toothpaste will dry the blemish, reducing the swelling and the inflammation.
* After giving the toothpaste time to work wash it off with warm water and a gentle soap or cleanser. If your blemish hasn’t dried out yet it just needs more time so start over.
2) Hemorrhoid Cream: Any hemorrhoid cream will work. These creams are fast acting anti-inflammatories. They will take out swelling and inflammation almost immediately. Application time varies from brand to brand so read and follow the indications for the type that you choose.
Natural Acne Remedies
1) Zinc: Supplement your diet with this mineral to help relieve and cure acne. You can find Zinc at your grocery store. Follow the indications and dosage on the bottle and you should see results within a few weeks.
2) Tea tree oil: The strong antiseptic quality off this natural oil will kill any bacteria on your skin that are causing and maintaining pimples almost instantly.
* Repeat daily.
3) Rose Water: Roses contain Phenyl ethanol which is a natural antiseptic and disinfectant, and Eugenol which is anti-microbial and astringent. Both of these substances are use full in treating acne.
* Apply the rose water directly to the affected area with a cotton ball.
4) Cinnamon and Honey: Mix 1 tbs. of honey with 11/2 tsp. of cinnamon powder.
* Apply a thin layer of the honey-cinnamon mix to your face in the same way you would put on a facial mask. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and then wash your face.
* Repeat the application once a day.
* Save the remaining part of your mixture in a covered container. Refrigerating is optional.
Acne and Diet
Recently researchers have found a diet high in carbohydrates with a high glycemic index, which cause glucose and insulin levels to spike, will influence the development and severity of acne. Alternatively, a diet high in protein and carbohydrates with a low glycemic index seems to reduce the frequency and severity of acne breakouts.
Other possible culprits of acne include milk and lack of fresh vegetables. As reported in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, a significant positive association was found between acne and milk intake. Further, diets rich in fresh fruits and vegetables supply large amounts of antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories.
Keep a food journal to better understand what foods may be contributing to your acne. Log what you eat and when in your journal. Then if there is a breakout look at what you’ve eaten for a day or two before hand and see if there is a notable pattern.
Though a few quick fixes are available for short term relief getting and keeping acne under control may take some time. Choose a treatment plan that sounds right to you and stick with it for at least eight weeks before deciding whether or not its working.
Caution: If irritation occurs while using one of these or any other topical skin treatment stop use immediately. Rinse the irritated area thoroughly with cool water and do not use the treatment again. If irritation persists after rinsing consult a physician.
