If the headline seems a little dramatic, people with acne will know what I mean. We all know what causes acne – you know, blocked glands, clogged pores, excessive sebum secretion, overactive hormones, and improper skincare – but the trick is to find out which of the available acne treatments works for you.

Essentially, all acne treatments focus on dealing with the causes of acne. Obviously, what medication your dermatologist prescribes will depend on how severe your acne is, but it will also depend on its cause.

In brief, the most widely available acne treatments are tried and tested ones. I have heard and read quite a bit about alternative acne treatments, but frankly speaking, have not had the courage to try any of them yet. The things that ain’t broken don’t need fixing. So I sticked to the topical creams and gels that my doc gave me(ohh.. and pills to). You may also have to take oral medicines such as antibiotics (i did it to). In rare cases, some people may require surgical procedures. Thankfully, I have not had to resort to light and laser therapy, but I hear they have worked wonders for some.

However, the commonest and most popular methods to treat acne are topical ones. So your best bet is to use a benzyl peroxide and salicylic acid combination, preferably not over the counter, but authentically prescribed. It is only when your acne does not respond to such treatment that you will require oral medication, or perhaps even surgery, God forbid.

This letter is sent to me by a friend of mine, he talks about his experience of acne treatment. I personally prevented my acne by pills but I will be happy to know what your experience say:

You have to make a distinction here: do you want to treat acne or control it? The funny thing is that in most cases, the two are interlinked so that you can’t do one without the other. The weirdest thing about acne, in fact, is that it is not really curable, but you can control it so that the attack doesn’t have time to gather steam, and you are never more than mildly affected.

Yes, you can go to a dermatologist and s/he will prescribe topical or oral medications that will repress the acne for a while, but you can never be sure that these will permanently eliminate your acne. I know of people who have actually suffered relapses once they have discontinued treatment. I myself never really went in for medication because my doctor told me that it would most probably be really long-term.

No, I think a better way to treat acne is to control it using non-medical methods, such as proper skincare, and a balanced diet. Yes, for those who suffer things like stress-related acne, there may be a need for anti-depressants or some medications that work on the cause of the acne rather than the acne itself.

However, I have found that washing at least twice a day, not using oil-based cosmetics, drinking plenty of water, getting regular exercise, and eating lots of fruit and vegetables have made a great impact on my acne. So unless you absolutely need medication, I would advise to explore other options, which may last your lifetime, but at least they will improve your general health. And sue me if that doesn’t positively affect your acne.

so, what are you saying ?

If you’re reading this article, chances are you suffer from acne and are hoping to find a permanent solution to your problem. There are many ways in which you can control acne, some of which are good acne skin care, taking acne pill, acne medications, and natural acne treatments. Here we talk about acne pill, its various types, their benefits, and how these pills can help you to regain clear and healthy skin.

Birth Control Acne Pill

It has been proven that birth control pills can help to clear acne. These pills help to regularize the menstrual cycle in women and also controls the production of the male hormone testosterone, thereby reducing the production of skin oils and preventing acne. However, birth control pill acne does have many side effects such as nausea, headaches, weight gain, depression etc, which is why you should look at alternative acne treatments. And as far as men with acne are concerned, such acne pill is not an option to control their acne problems.

Antibiotic Acne Pill

Your dermatologist can prescribe different types of antibiotics to help fight acne. Some of the more common ones are tetracycline, doxycycline, and erythromycin. These antibiotic acne pill fight the bacteria that are responsible for acne breakouts. As long as you take antibiotics, your acne breakouts should be minimal. However, there may be adverse side effects with antibiotics such as itchiness, redness of the skin, nausea, and acidity. And once you stop taking antibiotic acne pill, your pimples are bound to return in a matter of time. Thus, when using antibiotics, it is best to make them a part of a broader acne treatment routine instead of only depending on these pills to do the trick of curing acne.

Never self medicate yourself with antibiotic acne pill. Make sure you start this line of acne treatment only after consulting a qualified dermatologist and do so on their advice.

Natural Acne Pill

There are many different natural pills for acne treatment available in the markets today. In fact, if you suffer from serious side effects after taking any other type of acne pill, then natural acne products may be a good solution for you as these have minimal side effects, if any.

Not only are natural acne products very successful in curing acne, but also you can take them for as long as you need without having to worry about adverse health problems from taking the pills. When buying any natural acne pill, do make sure it is from a reputed and certified manufacturer only so as to be sure of getting a safe product.

Blessed indeed are those who have good skin that is not prone to acne. Acne not only affects teens but can also affect people of all ages. However, for people who suffer from acne, some relief is at hand in the form of acne treatment. Here is a brief look at the various acne treatments available today.

Acne Treatment For Problem Skin

1. Topical Acne Treatments: One of the most convenient ways to control acne is by using topical acne preventing creams and lotions. These are available readily over-the-counter and are economical too. Most topical acne remedies contain one or more of the following substances:

• Sulfur: Whiteheads and blackheads on the face are broken down and eliminated by sulfur. This helps to rid the skin of these pimple-causing agents, thus reducing acne. Sulfur is known to irritate some skin types and should be discontinued if any irritation persists.

• Benzoyl Peroxide: This substance fights the bacteria that are responsible for causing acne. Dead skin that is abundant on the top layer of skin is also removed by benzoyl peroxide. In the absence of dead skin, blackheads and whiteheads do not develop easily, thus reducing acne.

• Salicylic acid: This substance too removes dead skin cells, thereby reducing blackheads and whiteheads and consequently acne.

Topical acne treatment comes in the form of gels, lotions, and creams. Lotions and creams should be used for dry skin, whereas gel based products and alcohol-based solutions should be used for oily skin.

2. Acne Treatment With Antibiotics: Antibiotics are medicines and drugs that are consumed orally to fight acne. Antibiotics reduce the pimple-causing bacteria on your skin; decrease the production of chemicals that make your skin acne prone; and also lower the presence of fatty acids in sebum, thereby controlling severe bouts of acne. Popular antibiotics used for acne treatment are:

• Erythromycin
• Tetracycline
• Doxycycline
• Clindamycin
• Minocycline

3. Dermatological Acne Treatment: If acne is extremely severe and cannot be managed by antibiotics and topical treatments, it may be time to see a qualified dermatologist. A skin specialist can offer you different acne treatments such as acne surgery and drainage procedures for acne control. They can even administer injections of corticosteroid, which help to melt acne pustules and cysts, thus reducing acne. Even if you do not have very severe acne but suffer from it regularly, you should consult a dermatologist who will help you to figure out the cause for your particular type of acne and identify the best possible acne treatment for you.

4. Natural Acne Treatment: Various home remedies for acne treatment have proven to be as effective if not more, than medical prescriptions for treating acne. Here are some tried and tested natural acne remedies:

• Cut a fresh clove of garlic and apply directly on the pimple for quick acne treatment.
• Grate a piece of cucumber and apply it to acne-affected skin. You should see a marked difference within few days.
• Dry the peels of few oranges. When completely dry, grind into a powder. Make a paste using the orange peel powder and water/rose water. Apply to acne-affected skin for 15 minutes and rinse well.

Try one or more of the acne treatment mentioned above and stick with what works best for you.

The Truth About Birth Control Pill Acne

Recent medical studies and clinical trials have shown that birth control pills can indeed be an effective remedy for acne prevention. To fully understand how birth control pills can reduce acne, you first need to understand some of the causes of acne.

The female body produces male hormones known as androgens or testosterone. The production of these hormones increases just before the monthly menstrual cycle is about to start, which in turn increases the production of oil in your skin. Excess oil feeds the acne-causing bacteria on your skin, leading to block skin pores and consequently to a break out of pimples. By taking birth control pills, the presence of excess androgens in the body can be controlled, which eventually leads to less oil production and fewer acne inflammations.

Another way in which birth control pill acne works is by regulating the menstrual cycle in women. Women who have irregular periods do so because the hormonal production in their body is not optimal. By using birth control pills, they can regularize their period as well as the hormonal production in their body, thereby reducing instances of acne breakout.

Side Effects Of Birth Control Pill Acne

Birth control pill acne is known to cause various side effects in women. Some of these are:

• Headache
• Nausea
• Weight gain
• Depression
• Water retention and bloating
• Vaginal bleeding
• Dark brown patches on skin
• Increased risk of strokes, heart attacks, and breast cancer.

Although severe side effects are not very common, they are known to happen. Thus, you should weigh the benefits of birth control pill acne against its side effects before deciding if it is the right acne treatment for you. If your doctor does prescribe birth control pills for acne prevention, you should perhaps take the pills for a few weeks and see whether or not you do suffer from any adverse effects. If not, you may continue to take the pills to control acne.

Which Birth Control Pill Acne Should You Take

Low dose birth control pills that contain a newer progestin known as norgestimate are best for treating acne. Those pills that contain the older progestin known as norgestrel can actually worsen acne in women who do not have it. Also, birth control pill acne that has high content of androgens and low content of estrogen should be avoided as they may increase acne instead of reducing it.
