The types of acne scars differ according to the response of the human skin to the acne. There is either a loss of tissue at the acne site or there is formation of added tissue. Both these responses result in acne scarring.

1. Loss of tissue scarring: The following types of scarring can occur when there is a loss of tissue:

•    Ice pick scars: These are generally seen on the cheek and are typically small with steep sides. Sometimes, with the passage of time, these acne scars can get bigger and deeper. They are then known as Depressed Fibrotic Scars.

Only by preventing excessive acne inflammation in this manner, can you hope to avoid acne scar.
•    Never pick your pimples or any scabs that have formed. Your body has a natural healing process to deal with acne. When you burst your pimples or pick on the scabs, you are delaying the healing process, which in turn leads to increased acne inflammation and acne scarring.
